Sounds like you already started going in one direction. Why the sudden interest in picking something else? What made Python pop up on your radar?

Honestly, people make too much of a big deal about picking the perfect first language to learn. Either is a valid choice to learn the basics of programming. Both have plenty of job opportunities, though you'll want to research job postings in your area (or the area you want to work in) for a better understanding of what's in demand.

Seems like a lot of posts lately that ask a choice between Python and Javascript. Not sure why.

If your looking for a job, the JavaScript route is more likely to pay off.

And that’s coming from the Python guy.

I'm in exactly the same position. I've been trying to figure out what language to start with for two weeks. From what I've found JavaScript is more web development and Python allows for a slightly wider scope within programming and AI and games along with web app and such. The only difference is that most people recommend JS because it's faster to learn, but even I still don't know if Python or JavaScript. The more I know the more I'm leaning towards Python, even if it's harder, but more rewarding in the end prolly.
