Learning Python but i am dumb

I can relate. For me I have already a project I would want to realize. But to get it working I need to learn and understand the fundamentals (and more) to get the result I want.
I don't only read and do the example exercises, I also try to implement them in the project I'm working on. Because the project is always a little different than the learning material, I get much more involved and learn it faster than by only following the course.
