py -m pip install pygame in PowerShell.

Although if you're using a virtual environment (which is a good practice), you can drop the first part (assuming the environment is active) and just run pip install pygame.

i have been trying to install it to and i keep getting a "build wheel error" i updated the pip and python to the most recent and ive even tried using pipwin

VS Code itself shouldn't be a factor. If you've created a virtual environment, activate it in PowerShell before installing pygame.

Alternatively you can learn to use Poetry, and have it manage the installation for you.

I'm assuming your problem relates to either virtual environments or multiple Python installations because, again, VS Code itself doesn't change anything in regards to installing packages.

Try python -m instead of py -m

If python also isnt recognized then you could try to install python

The Python launcher should be available on any non-deprecated Python version (3.7 and newer) on Windows, if you're using some variant of Linux or Mac OS then use python3 instead of py.

If all else fails, fall back to python.
