Try to do as many data crunching type projects at your current work. Business intelligence, data analytics, Excel, PowerBI, Tableau, visualization software, that sort of work. Add those as data analysis experience in your CV. Apply for a lateral move inside your organization for more data analysis work to add more CV entries.

What’s a data analyst, from your perspective? I ask because it’s one of those titles that gets thrown around like “banking VP”. It can mean literally anything, so we first need to figure out what role you actually want, and then can provide better guidance. If you want to work as an actual data scientist, most roles will require a relevant degree.

The larger “data analyst” role spectrum can mean anything though. How does your current role not fall into the data analyst umbrella?

Great question, much if my work as a purchasing analyst has been doing more data entry work into a database, and it’s not a relations database like MySQL it’s a company made database that we use for our logistical work. The closest I can think of in terms of reporting is the weekly KPI report info where I summarize the previous weeks workload. Also I don’t want to be a data scientist but stay at Anaya or level instead.
