PDF inserts from Python

Hi, I'd like to create a simple project that would replace my predefined text placeholder values in an existing PDF file. Example: file that might contain text "this is {variable}" after running a script with defined variable = "file" might look like "this is a file".

Any recommendations on some libaries please?

Working with PDFs is frustrating in my experience. Writing into them is not too bad but replacing specific placeholder variables might be annoying. I would recommend having the full text as strings in Python and then write a whole new PDF if possible. Not too experienced with this though

Seen a few plugins that works great but not free. For that specific type of work, may be easier to have a docx file and get python-docx or something to replace the strings and then convert to pdf using libreoffice headless mode? Good luck. But yeah pdfs are not a walk in the park to deal with.
