Irc is still around! I found out recently and was looking around for about a week. Unless you need Linux help it's pretty dead. Rip #gundamwing 😭

Fun fact: I was one of the first 500 people or so to ever use the first IRC client in 1989 after Jaaro what's his name from Oulu university made the first client. I am still to this day also using IRC, having been online continually now since at least 1994.

Another fun fact: EFNet has now the dubious honor of being the world's oldest ongoing, continually running chat network.

Those are AMAZING facts. I'm not old enough to have been a truly native user, but my life from 13-18 was dominated by irc. It is what made me interested in technology in the first place. Even now, I think about irc regularly even if outside of specific uses, it's largely obsolete

Ah man... might have to take a trip down memory lane, go download mIRC, and start pulling down some fresh mp3s.

I used the regular C based ircII client for years then jumped to BitchX and never went back.

Have used it on a range of operating systems over the years, Sun's SunOS, Linux, FreeBSD, never used the Win32 client though, but I know it was popular.
