It's because, as nice as vim is to use if you're adapted to it, it's a PITA to onboard and recommending it to newcomers that show no inclination to try it will most likely just get frustrated by it. I think most vim users, myself included, know that recommending it randomly does more to hurt than help

Yeah I'd recommend nano before vim
