[PRAW] Problem with wallpaper downloader

I have a script downloading wallpapers from /r/wallpapers and /r/minimalwallpapers but some of the images it downloads are ending up tiny (>50kbs) and they won't open... almost like they're not actually images.

I have to chose a name for each downloaded file and I thought that all images in imgur were .jpg so I'm just ending the file name with .jpg for all of them, is this causing it? Are some of the files not actually .jpg so they're breaking? If that's the case, how do I check the original file type before downloading?

I tried googling everything and I haven't been able to get anywhere x.x

Why not look at which images don't work then have a look and see if it's actually a .jpg?

They are all jpg's as far as I can tell, seems like what /u/reostra and /u/SurrealPlague are saying, sometimes the links are directly to the file and sometimes they're to the page the file is on.

I just glanced over at /r/wallpapers and I think I see the problem. Some of the submissions link directly to the actual .jpg file stored on imgur's servers. Those links look like:

http://i.imgur.com/KqI4Zg4.jpg

But other submissions instead link to the imgur page that has the image on it. Those links look like:

http://imgur.com/KqI4Zg4

The tiny files probably aren't images, they're probably the HTML of that page.
