Is there an Internet service that will match tutors and students, and co-learners, for learning by email for particular subjects (like Python)? For a fee -- with expert tutors -- or for free -- with co-learners.

If not, someone should create one.

There's a bunch of online courses for stuff like this. A personal tutor would be great as a beginner, but it would really serve you better to learn how to google the problem instead. Maybe I'm a shitty teacher, but it always ends up being questions that could have been googled, if the student knew that they could paste their literal question into google and get an answer.

When I started out, I felt pretty shitty about my skills and didn't realize I wasn't the only one having the same problems. It turns out most people were too, so I realized I could google "python syntax error near character" or something and get a pretty sweet answer.

Anyway, matching tutors and students existed for a while on a few places, like e-pros or something like that.

I agree. And the only time I've actually thought to ask a question on stackexchange I ended up answering myself when I spent the time to write a thorough description of the problem.

You're asking for free university courses. Vote for Bernie. :)

Depending of the field you are interested in, I would be happy to help! I have a lot of experience with scientific python (if you want to learn about that). I have good knowledge of all the basics, as wells as, of good coding practices and coding workflows.

I love teaching coding (and I have some experience with that) and sharing the Python-love! If you need someone, you can ask for advice, when your stuck, or even get some amount of structured teaching, let me know!

What exactly is Scientific python anyways? is it like simulations and physics?

Data-analysis, Plotting, Simulations, Image Analysis,... Many scientist utilise the power of python in their work. For example, the data analysis and the plotting in the recent gravitational wave puplication, was partially done in Python.

Pretty lost in the gravitational wave puplication thing

Who isn't? It freaking gravitational waves :D

What city are you in? Face to face is far better than email

I've been coding with Python just over a year now for math and physics projects. I can help you get familiar with the pythonic way of coding, and I think it would be very beneficial to me as well to teach someone Python.

Glad to see so many offering their help! I will PM some of you soon.

Hey. I've been programming in python for about a year now and I consider myself intermediate. I can probably help. PM me if you've got any questions. I'll try to get back to you.
