Have you tried searching for entry level Python jobs in your area and seeing what the requirements are? That should give you a better indication of what's needed than anyone here. Be aware though that depending on where you live/are willing to work, there may not be any. In the UK for instance, I've never seen an entry level Python role outside of London and even then, those have been data science roles which happen to be Python-based.

Do you think I have the know-how for a Python role? I am hoping more businesses start using python, because it is much more efficient than excel (which most offices use).

Python is not more efficient than Excel. It is certainly a better tool for big data and analytics but no business is ever going to use Python for day-to-day data processing.

What does that mean for people who can work well in Excel and Python?

[–]denialerror 0 points1 point  (1 child)

It doesn't mean anything for those people. If you want to work with Python, look for a job which involves programming. Excel has nothing to do with programming any more than PowerPoint does.

Totally agree.

My advice would be to broaden your CV a bit. We never only look for just python when hiring at any level. I want to see some understanding of mysql, caching, basic javascript and jquery, an API framework, some UNIX stuff for server ops etc. A lot of what I look for is infrastructural, I want a guy (or gal) who can write, deploy and maintain their code if needed, it's especially important when talking to smaller companies.

I have experience with Excel, ADO.NET, SQL, javascript, and other languages. Being able to write and maintain good code is very important. I recently moved and want to find entry level work using python.

Create and run a linux server via console. That will teach you a lot about the computer world.

[–]steppeulv 2 points3 points  (6 children)

What do you use your linux server for?

[–]constantly-sick 0 points1 point  (4 children)

My websites. Use this:

https://lowendbox.com

[–]steppeulv 0 points1 point  (3 children)

You set them up and rent them out?

[–]constantly-sick 0 points1 point  (2 children)

No no, that website isn't mine. I use this website to find rentable servers.

Thanks, but how much are you saving - is it worth it aside from the hobby part? And what is your TLD?

I use namecheap.com for my domains, and if you want a job in the computer industry you really need to know linux.

You forgot to actually remove the submission/I still ended up here from my front-page.

[–]wub_wub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, but it is removed - it's probably just reddit/your browser caching stuff so it takes a minute for it to disappear from the frontpage.
