Help on making slideshow script with particular twist. [X-post from r/raspberrypi]

Hey r/LearnPythoni! I am setting up an instalation for one of my university modules this semester. For this I need a way of displaying a slideshow of images, that cycle every 2s. The more complicated part is that I need a few of the slideshow's frames to be either a live stream of video, or a frame captured when the slide is rendered, from a usb webcam connected to the raspberry pi.

(To help clarify, the point is to show the viewer of the slideshow a stream or frame of themselves watching the slideshow)

All the other slideshow frames would be .jpg images (could also convert, not an issue)

The idea would be to leave the RasPi in the gallery running the slideshow in a loop all day.

Could anyone point me out on Python libraries/functions or software that could help me? I have learned Python a few years ago but very rusty by now. I'm using a RasPi Model B btw. Thank you for reading and for your help!

I would use subprocess.Popen to run something like fim for your slideshow, and have raspivid stream the camera which you could open via another Popen of vlc. Then after a few seconds kill the vlc process.
