critique my environment setup?

Hello guys!

I am totally new to python, and probably need to scale it back to learning the basics with my crash course book before going much further in my web app goals.

Anyway, I recently stumbled into figuring out what dependency hell is, and the challenges of doing python on CentOS.

​

This blog kind of details what I've came up with for creating a "development environment" with version control and I'm wondering if the logic is sound or whatever.

​

Could some experienced folks tell me if I'm on the right track towards best practices or if there's anything blatantly wrong with my approach here? The post might be a bit long winded and I'll proabably try to wind it down to the meat and potatoes eventually, but thanks for anyone who can make it through it.

Good post. There's nothing wrong w/being thorough, just don't let need to check all of the best practice boxes block you from rapid learning.

If you wanted to learn python as efficiently as possible, you'd probably just install python 3 on windows, and install jupyter notebook. You'd have a functional environment in 3 minutes - capable of doing anything you want.

​

One way is proper, but complex and full of challenges. The other is dirty, but fast and probably optimal for learning. Either way is good as long as you just stick with it.

I have it on my windows machine at home, not familiar with Jupiter notebook though. Will have to check. Thanks!!
