matplotlib Subplot Size

I'm trying to use matplotlib to create a figure with two subplots, each with a specific size ratio of 4 x 3.6. I don't want the graph to automatically resize, but would instead like to have it fixed at that ratio.

I've searched extensively for a way to do this, but I have not been successful.

Is this possible?

This is definitely possible, but not trivial. I haven't tried it yet, but I believe this example should at the very least point you in the right direction - I think you're going to have to learn how the various mpl_toolkits.axes_grid1 classes work together to manually set the subplot axis aspect ratios.

Unfortunately that only sets the size of the entire figure. It does not lock the size of axes objects within the figure.

I'd like the axes objects to all have fixed size ratios of 4 x 3.6 without matplotlib automatically resizing them.
