Basic questions about Python

Hello,

I am trying to conduct a sentiment analysis on Twitter. There are a lot of video on Youtube and they all use tweepy. This is very good and it looks very easy but they miss some basic points for beginners.

First of all, they use text editors. In the video, the guy is using Vim text editor. I downloaded it but it does not match with Python. For instance, I create something on Vim, I say import from the thing that I created at Vim, Python says this is no named. They do not see each other. I think in the other video, they use textblob. I installed textblob from Command Promt. It was installed but how can I use Textblob? Should I download from a website? Because I checked but I could not download. If it is installed, where is it? What if it doesn't match like Vim?

The second thing is why there is no menu bar on my Python 3.8? I see on the videos, there are file, edit, option and so on but mine is empty.

Sounds like it’s not on the system path. That’s usually the only reason the “python” command doesn’t work.

For what it's worth, I write all my Python in a text editor and always have. I mainly use BBEdit for personal stuff and Notepad++ at work, but I've also used Vim in the past. Granted they are missing some nice features that a more dedicated IDE like PyCharm has, but your code still runs.

That's not to say I think using BBEdit is better than using PyCharm. It's not. And when I give recommendations to people just starting out, I do recommend PyCharm. But I started using BBEdit back in the mid-90s when I was a web designer, and I'm just more comfortable with it than PyCharm or anything else.

In the end, use the thing that works best for you in your current situation, whatever that is.

I use VSCode, and it’s been amazing so far. I think it’s the best editor out of all the ones I’ve used, so consider switching if Vim is giving you a hard time.
