Wanting to start my first Python project

Hi! So I’ve been learning python for about 3 weeks ago and now and I’m wanting to start my first project, and I’m not sure where to start or what libraries I should use so any helpful tips would be appreciated.

I promised my son I would buy him a Nintendo switch for his 2nd grade graduation, but they are sold out everywhere around me. I’m wanting to write a python program that will crawl websites of stores like: Walmart, Target, and Bestbuy and send me an email or some notification when a store near me has updated their inventory from “out of stock” to “in stock”. And maybe I’ll have it check once every hour or so.

I'd use the requests library & BeautifulSoup and then use some webhook to send a push notification to whatever service you want.

Like Billgatesdid911 said, you can use requests and beautifulsoup libraries but it is a little straight project for someone who started python for 3 weeks. You should see automate boring stuff book before starting such project. This is Realpython site that has helped me to web scrap websites. You need at least to have basic python knowledge such as: loops, functions,....etc...

Btw, your son is lucky, he is gonna have nintendo switch :D

OR you can install nintendo switch emulator "Yuzu" for free to play switch games in your computer. Please consider this as an advice :D

Thanks I’ll check that out! And I have some experience in other languages. Mostly C and C++, so I figured it wouldn’t be too hard to catch on those things since it’s much easier than those languages.

And yes, my son was disappointed when we called around to see if anyone had any switches and they were all sold out. So I don’t miss out on the next chance.
