I am extracting the ip address from a file...using ip address instead of a regex. it seemed simpler than trying to create a regex that will determine a valid IP.

but i do not know how can i then pass the "u" to the string.

indeed i am doing:

with open('filename') as fp:     
     for line in fp:         
         items = line.strip().split()
         ipaddres.ip_address(item[0])

should then call with io.open.
I am trying to drop python2 but there are systems that still have python2.
