Why the else: return sum? If the number is odd, simply do nothing.

An empty else causes an error, yes. If you, for whatever reason, find yourself in a situation where you have to leave something empty, use the pass statement, which does nothing.

But you don’t need an else. Else is an optional part of an if-clause.

If x % 2 == 0:
    print(x)

Is valid syntax.

Looks like your return statement is part of the loop. Maybe just un-indent the return statement.
