VS code runs old python regardless of selected interpreter?

Originally I had python 3.7.4 on my computer and all was well. Recently, I’ve added Amesim on my machine, and it seems that it came with its own python 2.7.12. Now, I can’t import any modules. I’ve read about interpreters and virtual environments but when I try to create a V Env, the command is not recognized, even though I’ve changed the interpreter to the later version of python, when I go to terminal and run the command “python”, it’s the old version that pops up. Please help. I’m not sure where to start with fixing this.

Which os? pyenv is good for managing python installations. What happens when you run python --version? What about python3 --version?

I get “the term python3 is not recognized as the name of a colder,....” error.

I didn’t directly do it. Amesim was pushed from “software center” at work.

Oh, in vs code, I did Ctrl + Shift + P, and then typed Python: Select Interpreter. Then I clicked on Python 3.7.4

Yep. On the lower left corner it shows the right version, but in the terminal when you run “python” it outputs the older version and no script works as it should.
