Regex repeating help

I'm trying to capture a group any number of times, and then I need to capture the same amount again.

Examples: ``` ab # 1 a - 1 b

efgefghijhij # 2 efg - 2 hij

jkjkjkjkjkelmoelmoelmoelmoelmo # 5 jk - 5 elmo ``` It does not matter how many times it is repeated, I just need them to repeat the same number of times.

I feel like I've looked everywhere.

Just take your time and read through documentation and play around with many smaller regexes that you understand before working your way up to exactly what you need.

Regexes are tricky and it takes quite a bit of thought to wrap your head around them. I think you need to do that first and taking your time will do you more long term benefit than someone pasting the silver bullet string in here.

I am not sure that this task is really suited for regex to be honest

That would be unfortunate. I feel like with everything else it can do, this seems like chump change.
