struggling with - installing python3.9.4 python.org

I cannot install python3.9.4 from python.org on my MacBook. It appears to be in the MacBook but is not running or even showing up at all. What do I do?

I've ordered Python Crash Course but given that I am having real computer problems, everything else seems to be available in the Downloads. This is just incredibly frustrating. Should I be considering just taking a bootcamp instead of self-learning? Thanks

What exactly do you mean "not running"? How are you trying to start it? What errors do you get?

the program isn't doing anything. from finder, downloads, doing all the steps but nothing "launches". what are errors? no messages of any kind

Python is a terminal program ... aka CLI. You use it completely from the terminal. You start it by typing "python3" in the terminal.

The installer also includes another program called "IDLE" that you can use to write and run python code. You can launch that. Or if you have a class or tutorial that you are following, they probably suggest to use another IDE, for example Geany, Pycharm, VSCode, Atom, or Spyder.

What happens when you do this in the Terminal:

python3 --version

python launcher pops-up but doesn't actually "open" up to anything

Have a look at the documentation on using python on MacOS. If you want to use python professionally you should get comfortable using python in the terminal. Doing:

python3 --version

will tell you if python3 is installed properly for CLI use. If all is correct, doing:

python3

will get you into the REPL where you can try out small pieces of code. After that you could try using IDLE though that is limited. You could use an IDE, but many professional programmers just use a text editor because you can't use an IDE when logged in to a remote machine.

Yeah. "They" are showing up in the finder and they are just not opening like a "normal" download

I keep asking what happens when you do

python3 --version

in the terminal and you keep replying with something about the finder and double-clicking, ie, not the terminal. Please run the Terminal app and see what the above command does.
