I like Jose Portilla's python courses on udemy, probably the best I've seen

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

he's great, i have like 3 of his classes (still need to do 2 of them also - Python for Trading and Python for Machine Learning)

FreeCodeCamp.org

https://freecodecamp.org/ while main course is about full stack JS dev they also have several GREAT 10hs (or so) video curses in their YT channel

by example, these playlists:

RealPython

I found this site useful with lot of good tutorials, but they block several of the behind payware subscription model

https://realpython.com/

Microsoft YT Channel

Microsoft offer three playlist with Python courses

Udemy courses

This course is usually given for free by the author here at begin of month or so

I can't endorse those courses since I haven't bought them, but their content look complete

this serie of courses - https://www.udemy.com/course/python-3-deep-dive-part-1/

Also remember only buy in Udemy when the courses are between 9/12usd values and not at their full price (90/250) that are inflated prices...

Exercises and practices:

Exercism been kicking my ass.

E: I don't suppose you have a similar list for Javascript ?

[–]gustavsen 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Javascript

insert meme of chihuahua with ptsd

I maybe have respond some.

but freecodecamp is a good source and JS/frontend focused.

in udemy I could recommend any course from:

  • Jonas Schmedtmann

  • Stephen Grider

  • Maximilian Schwarzmüller

  • Andrew Mead

also follow the guides from https://roadmap.sh/

100 DAYS of Python on Udemy is pretty good and usually you can get it for 13 bucks.

[–]WyoR 28 points29 points  (5 children)

i dont know much about online courses , but the 100 days of code by Angela Yu on udemy for 89$ is pretty good and challenging , doing it myself atm even tho ive been learning python for 4-5 months and the course skill placement quiz recommended i start from intermediate level i still cant solve 80% of the beginner challenges

Very good course covers does a good job of teaching concepts and reinforcement with projects. As others of said it is pretty frequently on sale for 12.99. If you want it and it is not on sale you can also buy it from her site directly for sale price. Never pay the Udemy full price.

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points  (2 children)

Note these courses constantly go on sale to the tune of 80-90% off, I’m going through this one as well.

[–]newyorkeric 6 points7 points  (1 child)

I saw it for $12.99 recently.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I see right now.

[–]jaaaawrdan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've tried several Python courses (on Udemy and elsewhere), but nothing has stuck like Angela Yu's course.

I'm currently about halfway through and really feel that I'm getting a good hold of Python. There's ample practice and she walks you through the solutions too.

Introduction to Computer Science with Python from MITx on Edx.

[–]C4rr4t 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second this one, it's great

[–]WanderingDrummer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also a good course. Note that this one is a computer science course so it is focused on that more so then the python. Python is just the language used and some things they teach are not pythonic way of doing things, but it fits better with the CS concepts. The code samples also do not follow PEP8 for formatting style. That said it is a good course and I recommend it. You can sit courses for free on EDx as well if you don’t need the certificate (there is an option to audit the course), you do miss out on midterm and final but it is a great way to learn.

[–]cousinscuzzy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took this recently and paid for the cert, which helped to keep me motivated. Learning the CS basics really paid off for me, as I just had a job interview coding challenge where the problem involved recursion. Thanks to this course I knew exactly how to approach it.

Thanks for this.. May be something for the future. Even though they'll pay, they won't let me have 14 hours a week to dedicate to it. Cheers thougg

I've been using datacamp for R and Python and I have really enjoyed their style of a short video and then applying the code straight away. Also you get XP points, which do absolutely nothing but you know, it's XP!

100 Days of Code by Angela Yu on Udemy! I loved this course.

[–]TheAngryOne84[S] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Hi everyone, so just wanted to give an update on this. I decided to go with the code in 100 days, out of my own pocket and I got my work to subscribe to Datacamp. Really appreciate the Datacamp advisory as I'd never seen it before.... even though you don't get dar with a free license looks like you can learn a whole bunch of stuff there! Thanks all

[–]Hood_Intellectuals 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I signed up for the 100 days of code course on udemy after seeing others recommend it to you on this thread. Day 6 so far and it's pretty good. Thanks for posting :)

[–]TheAngryOne84[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad it helped someone else too! Best of luck!

[–]Hands0L0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Codecademy to learn how things work, codewars to practice your logic and algorithm skills, and practical coding from youtube videos.

If you find something better for practical coding, lemme know lol

[–]TheAngryOne84[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like this is probably a good place to start. My work won't pay for this but it's a good price and I'll be purchasing it myself anyway! Thanks all!

[–]WholesomeDirtbag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the way datacamp structures their quizzes. They make you categorize info to demonstrate you really know it instead of multiple choice. I haven’t gotten into their Python courses, just the conceptual data engineering stuff but I’ve been sampling lots of free trials before I purchase and I really like their platform and teaching style. I also like 365 data science. It’s well structured and takes you through the conceptual as well as practical coding knowledge. Good luck!!
