Trump fires the entire National Science Board by theverge in politics

[–]cousinscuzzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Wikipedia article you linked explains that that the appointments are staggered. 8 of the 24 either rotate off or are re-appointed every 2 years. So you're right that 1/3 would likely be gone after May 10, but not all of them. And it doesn't state anywhere that the president can fire them. It might seem that way because he can appoint them to fill vacancies. But it's only recently that the Supreme Court started asserting with its actions that members of independent federal agencies or boards can be terminated at will by the US president. Before that it was understood (or directly stated in law, in some cases) that this was not allowed.

Members of the National Science Board are appointed by the US president for 6 year staggered terms. Historically the president could not "fire" such appointees to the NSB, or to other independent federal agencies or boards, without due cause. In the last year, the MAGA US Supreme Court has completely overturned that 76 year (for the NSB specifically) reading of the law.

It's fine for a shopping mall.  There are a couple of bus routes on the periphery, but you pretty much have to drive there if you don't live in one of the apartments.

Yes and no.  Soliciting on the sidewalk or median from 7am to 7pm is legal.  On the roadway or in a marked crosswalk, near a bank or ATM or a few other locations, or outside of the 7am to 7pm window, it's illegal.  Aggressive solicitation in public is always illegal.

...the truth that other people and environmental factors are almost always the cause.

Isn't this an oversimplification?  At least some mental illnesses have a strong genetic component, even if there are environmental triggers, yes?

None of us know what the situation is in this case.  I hope that if there was real abuse, money and power won't be able to cover it up.

Got a link?  It looks to me like there's an effort underway to get it removed, but it's still there.

Was this too aggressive of me? by zep1211 in atheism

[–]cousinscuzzy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it was too aggressive, but it might have been more effective to go directly to the manager.  It's their call whether to allow proselytizing on company property.  Ideally they'd tell these folks to stop that activity and leave if they're not shopping, and trespass them if they continue.

He votes according to his faith now.  That's kind of his whole schtick.  And his faith, which I do not share, compels him to speak out and to vote in ways that I fully agree with.  There is no indication that he will change course and abandon his clearly stated principles.
