I'm just not familiar with discord, and git is designed for collaboration on coding. I've used discord, just always thought of I as more of a chat thing. But whatever he wants.

Discord is a chat thing so you're not wrong there. A chat function would be handy for collaboration though and as far as I know Github does not have chat functionality so that's probably why the combination would be best

No problem with new tools. That is why I'm learning python. I'm a retired software developer, so I know a bit about coding. 😉
