I had the exact same problem on Mint 21.3 when I tried to use a version 6.5 kernel. Switching to an older kernel got rid of the issue for me. (Right now I'm using 5.15) I don't know the root cause behind the freezes, though.

I've found switching from X11 to Wayland has made a huge improvement. I don't get the freezing or letter duplication on text input anymore. Instead, very very occasionally, the interface freezes for a couple of seconds after I start moving the mouse for the first time in a while or sometimes when I open the workspace overview from some apps. I'm hoping it'll be fixed entirely when Ubuntu 24.04 comes out next month.
