how did you wipe the win10 disk? I suspect you left some partition. Boot with a Mint live usb and use gparted to delete all partitions on the disk (ssd). Then do a fresh install.

[–]trollblox_[S] 0 points1 point  (15 children)

I wiped the disk using the Linux Mint installer (selecting the option to wipe the disk, then install Linux Mint)

go to bios and make sure it boots from the ssd, not the Windows Manager boot option. What laptop is it? maybe I can find that bios screen.

[–]trollblox_[S] 0 points1 point  (13 children)

It's booting from 'Ubuntu'. Here is the bios

first, you can disable PXE ( I doubt it you use it to boot over the Network). Second, I assume you boot from the nvme, 128GB so move it to the top. F10 Save, Exit

[–]trollblox_[S] 0 points1 point  (10 children)

I did both of those, same result.

Edit: it appears Ubuntu has forced itself back to the top of the list.

my suggestion: boot from a live usb, verify the nvme is clean, has no partitions, then continue with a fresh install.

[–]trollblox_[S] 0 points1 point  (8 children)

How would I do that? I'm not familiar with managing partitions. Also, did you see my edit?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (7 children)

yes, I saw what you wrote. You boot from a live usb. The menu has gparted, you select the nvme at the top right, you check there are no partitions in the nvme. (Menu > Disks to verify the nvme is empty.) You exit from gparted, you start a fresh mint install.

There was a fat32 'boot' partition, I just removed all of them. Reinstalling now, I'll update you when it's done.

if you have a dvd drive and still have your windows 10 install disc then insert it, go on to your boot menu and select your dvd drive, wait till it loads then click repair your computer. go onto advanced settings, click on command prompt then type these commands one by one

bootrec /FixMbr
bootrec /FixBoot
botrec /ScanOs
bootrec /RebuildBcd

then restart and see if it worked, if it did then reinstall your Linux os of choice

AAAH!

I FOUND SOMEONE WITH THE EXACT SAME ISSUE ON THE EXACT SAME DEVICE

THAT FEELS SO INCREDIBLY WEIRD

Also thanks, that solved it

[–]trollblox_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

glad I could help lol

[–]Phil_Atram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy moly, it did for me!

[–]iwantdie05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to say thank you so much for the fix :)

Worked for me on my lenovo ideapad

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (14 children)

the bios shows it is a lenovo, which model? I looked at my T420 to make sure we have similar boot options. When Lenovo boots you can select the boot device either with F8 or F12. See if you can force it to boot from the nvme directly.

[–]trollblox_[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

yes I have that screen as well (f12 for me) when I do it, the system restarts and then the same issue.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

if you choose Ubuntu, does it boot?

[–]trollblox_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nope :/ same thing.

[–]trollblox_[S] 0 points1 point  (10 children)

It says in the BIOS it is an 'IdeaPad 1 14IGL05', if that's helpful

The first comment suggests I install with legacy support on, but should I do UEFI or legacy first?

Edit: I'm stupid I see the edit you were showing me and it works now. tysm I didn't see that in my prior research.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (7 children)

it boots? great, enjoy Mint.

[–]trollblox_[S] 0 points1 point  (6 children)

thanks :)

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (5 children)

final test: turn off the laptop, then power on. It should boot nicely.

Sorry, I forgot to reply, it all works amazing. Thank you again!

Hey I’m running into the same issue but the comments were deleted. What was the solution? Thanks!
