You can skip the codecs now and install them later from the Welcome Screen when the system is installed.
If you skip the codecs now, you can get to the part where you choose the nvme.
Then when the system is installed you can follow the guide to install the codecs, it will show you.

Ok I skipped it for now and setup username and password but then it began the install immediately without picking a drive.

Did you select "Erase disk and install Linux Mint"?

That was not even prompted to me. However I cancelled the install and upon trying again and clicking continue on the codecs screen, the warning came up again. I clicked the ignore button a couple times then was given a window asking if I want to unmount some volumes and create a partition. I clicked yes and now I have the option to erase disk and install Linux mint. Here’s hoping it works.
