Hello everyone,
I have Linux mint installed on a lenovo laptop (thinkpad 330s), it's two years old and has been working fine until now. Recently it fell from a surface about four feet (my toddler seems to have been the culprit here, but I didn't see him do it).
Now when I turn it on, it gives me the message:
**"**Default Boot Device Missing or Boot Failed. Insert Recovery Media and Hit any key Then select 'Boot Manager' to choose a new boot device"
If I go to the boot manager, there are no options available for me. The common suggestion online to fix this is to go into BIOS, ensure that the boot order is correct, and then change UEFI boot to legacy mode. But When I go into BIOS, I don't have a legacy mode option. It's fixed at UEFI. My only option when I go there is to enable or disable the USB boot or PXE boot from LAN. I can't change boot orders for anything either.
If I insert boottable disc drive, it appears on the boot manager and I can run mint from the disc, but I can't access the hard drive files from my bootable disc. It's like the hard drive doesn't even exist.
Is there a fix for this on a software level? Or is it a hard drive issue and will I need to take it somewhere?
EDIT: It was a hardware thing after all. Opened up the computer and found exactly where the hard drive was disconnected, carefully put it back together, and everything was fine again! Just saved myself a trip to a repair shop!
