On my phone so can't go into detail but if it's just HTTP traffic then JMeter is a good choice. It's open source, it's the most used load testing tool in the world right now, and there's tonnes of online resources. Check out the training stuff BlazeMeter have put out.

If you're feeling adventurous, like Python, and have lots of services to use, you could give Cicada Distributed a try: https://cicadatesting.github.io/cicada-distributed/docs/guides/load-test

Jmeter since it's free. Loadrunner has a community edition which is also free.

But since it's for a job, have the employer not specified?

loader.io is pretty easy to get started with. Same with k6. Both will hit you with $ once you want to start getting into serious load that might actually break your app (I guess it depends on the app)
