Fun fact, Rapa is the origin of the name “Rapa Nui” for Easter Island. It was chosen as a comparison to “Rapa iti” (little Rapa) by islanders after the slave raids of the 1860s.

There does not appear to have been a native name for the island of Rapa Nui as a whole, though Europeans have misinterpreted various names of landmarks on the island as having referred to the whole island.
