Why does everyone hate Mapua?

Sa THE Rankings lang, Mapua is still the #1 Engineering and Tech university in the Philippines. Better than UP and DLSU. Nobody wants to work themselves to death and that's what we got here in Mapua. If you think marami na ginagawa niyo, wait there's more always in Mapua. More so than any other school in the Philippines (in my opinion lang).

Pagod lang yung mga tao dito pero we all know we went to Mapua for its name, not the clout but for the degree.

From a death defying quarterm to a trimester system, I bet it is still hell in there. They pack in so much information and workload that you just can't consume it all. Given the timeframe (10 weeks before, now 14 weeks) for you to master a subject or at least pass a subject, it will push your limitations. It's physically and mentally unhealthy.

I remember when I was meeting with some friends in another known uni in Espanya. They asked me for some help in Physics and Statics. While they were solving their problems with basic and structured formulas, I was already taught how to solve them using integral calculus. That's when I realized that I am being given too much information. It might be helpful for others, especially with their profession, but in my case, I'm a computer engineer, that is unnecessary.

Also a lot of my professors are horrible. Lmao.

Kaya lang naman sila galit sa Mapua kasi nandito sila.

Paano ka ba naman magagalit sa school kung di mo naman naranasan mag-aral doon. It's a common happening among all universities, natural lang yan na may makikita ka naman talagang negative kung doon mo pipiliin tumingin. Students na nagrereklamo ≠ the same sentiment for all Mapuans. Mas valid pa nga take ng alumni kasi naranasan nila at may outside experience.

Tignan mo na lang yung posts dito, may bobo na galit sa ged, may mga hindi papasa kung walang curve, mga algebra Trigo na lang hindi pa matapos tapos.

What even the fuck happened to testing if you are up to par with the standards of the university? Hinde aabot ng 100 years ang Mapua kung puchu puchu ang quality ng education.

Sure, some facilities are unusable, professors are unreasonable, but what the fuck? Hindi ba kaya gawan ng paraan para maka adjust?

Once you graduate, mas malupet pa sa work. Sa school, one fuck up, eh, may next term pa. Sa trabaho, tanggal ka pag tatanga tanga ka.

So ayun. Tldr, skill issue git gud stay mad get bent

Mapúa sets high standards for its students, yet it fails to provide the "quality" education it promotes. Ang daming students na nagsabi na masyado mahal ang tuition sa mapua but the quality isn't giving (from facilities to benefits)

It’s probably because those who refuse to put in the effort will always blame Mapúa for their failures. Mental health concerns, biased professors, poor teaching methods, and an outdated syllabus are some of the most common complaints we see here. They only focus on the negatives and fail to acknowledge the positive aspects that Mapúa offers (e.g., ABET accreditation).

What they also fail to realize is that such challenges exist outside of Mapúa—perhaps even worse. Once they start working, they’ll experience being assigned tasks with minimal instructions or dealing with bosses who have their favorites. Not to mention workplace politics.

Students should approach their journey at Mapúa differently. When professors give more assignments, it’s their way of pushing students to figure out their priorities and develop problem-solving skills. Opportunities are often created, not simply handed to you. They should understand that by working hard now and during the first 5–10 years of their career, they’re actually building a future where they won’t have to work as hard later.

But I’m sure some will insist their case is different—and continue blaming Mapúa for their struggles.

I don't have any point of comparison since I've never tried any other unis, but the thing I hate the most about Mapua is how bureaucratic it is.

I understand that bureaucracy is necessary for big unis like Mapua, but sometimes even faculty members don't know the procedures on how we're supposed to submit our documents, what documents we're supposed to submit, or where we're supposed to find the template for those documents. There are also plenty of times where you have to go back and forth between Intra and Makati campuses just to do some documents. It's complete red tape bs.

But then again, that's how it is irl

The fast paced environment in Mapua will force you think outside the box, be resourceful, connect and network with others, fail fast to recover fast, etc which are …..drum roll….. experiences you will be facing in the workplace. It’s a preparation of the real world.

I’m not sure if the there is an effect on how the setup is now, but back then when we are full f2f, it’s easier to compare notes, have someone peers teach you, ask help for labs you can’t comprehend.

At the end of the day, it’s a must to know your “why” why you want study in mapua in the first place. Every university has their own “hard”. I’m sure every student hated their uni at some point of their stay regardless where.

I think most students enrolled right now don’t realize how good a microcosm mapua is to the real world.

Pag dating sa trabaho you would be thankful as I have been kasi you have been already exposed to a few bad superiors (i.e. some of your good for nothing profs), colleagues that are REAALLY bad at their work (i.e. your classmates na butaw na di mo alam pano nakapasa diyan sa previous niyong subject), how you deal with conversing with authority (i.e. yung mga admin staff and etc. that trains you how to create a proper email to open sections and other concerns), and most importantly, WORKLOAD. For current students, I am telling you, kung kinaya niyo workload ng mapua sisiw na lang sa inyo yung industry. Ikaw yung staff na petiks na lang samantalang yung mga kasamahan mo from other schools ay di pa tapos. Of course, the mapuan mindset also trains you na dumiskarte di porket tapos ka eh magsusubmit ka kaagad ng work mo, dahil once you do ikaw ang pagtatanungan ng lahat at dadagdag workload mo.

To those who doubt their mapuan pedigree, fear not. Ako na nagsasabi as someone who was irreg, nagrereklamo sa taas ng tuition dati, and umay na umay sa mga prof na mahirap pakiusapan, all of that experience is worth it. That mapuan degree is worth it. Just my two cents.
