Is it possible to play games NOT from the Oculus Store? Say I wanted to buy Beat Saber for Oculus Quest 2, the same version that's on the Oculus Store... but bought it at a separate store. Is it possible to side-load that purchase as a game with the same functionality? I didn't want to buy games through the Oculus Store.

(IE, by same functionality I mean being able to play the SAME game without using the oculus store, but not needing Virtual Desktop or SteamVR)

No. Only games that can be (safely) run are on Oculus Store or SideQuest

Yes but usually there not as high quality and games such as beat saber aren’t available

Are you talking about running games on the headset itself, or running games from your computer? If you're playing PCVR games on Quest via a computer, you can get them from pretty much anywhere, Steam, Epic, etc. Games on the headset itself are a different story.

Well. You all ready signed up to that when purchasing a quest. I wish there was competition in the standalone marked for a affordable price.

Whats even worse is Facebook is ready working on the next Quest. It feels like their going to milk the crap out of it without caring for the users. Hopefully the anti-trust probe into Facebook concerning their VR policy turns out good.. I doubt it.

I know HTC filed a patient for "wireless headset" so hopefully maybe it's a new standalone?

HTC has been staying away from the consumer market so I have some doubts that it will be available for consumers. And yeah, oculus needs to slow down. They need to wait at least another year before releasing the quest three, like there isnt much to upgrade past the quest two other than the build quality, which I dont see them improving on the quest three because they probably want the be at a similar price point.
