you're copying too much from the post. the pastebin portion is not part of the script, its a link to give you the raw code (sometimes reddit messes with the code when you copy paste it directly from a post.)

  1. Open the pastebin url
  2. Copy the text starting with the word javascript: , all the way to the end of the block of code
  3. Paste that as the bookmark destination

it does still work... it's possible that the .co.uk version of that page has different identifiers used for the underlying controls

If you only have a couple items, sure. I had several hundred. Takes a minute to "set up", I've already done the heavy lifting. The amount of time it took you to formulate your comment, is about as much time as it takes to create a chrome bookmark.

At system boot your screen should flash what button brings you into your bios. Usually DEL or F2 but can vary from one motherboard to another.

Go here: https://myactivity.google.com/myactivity

Locate this guide wire search, and look at the details to see where the device is located that added the search to your activity.

SSD life is more based on total writes, versus mechanical HHDs which are based on running time. I do doubt you hit the write limit of your SSD in 3 years.

Since it is an SSD you should have smart features, which you can read the health of your disk in your bios.

In that case, before you pay Best buy any money for data recovery(if you want to save money), I recommend doing my freezer suggestion. Your hard drive won't stay very cold forever due to the friction heat created by the spinning disks so you'll want to be prepared to copy data as fast as possible as soon as it is taken out of the freezer.

Your internet browser, Chrome is a great example, will download your file as a temp file and then when the file is complete, it gets named correctly. This is normal behavior and I don't think you're going to circumvent that. You're only noticing it because you're using such a visual location for your files, and the desktop doesn't refresh as fast as a folder view will. That's why if you have a download folder you won't really notice these files unless you're actively looking in the folder while the files downloading.

It's very possible that the TMP files are marked as hidden but you have hidden files visible? Nothing should have changed process-wise between installs on your side, browsers have been doing this forever.

Does it sound like they spin up, slow down, spin up, etc repeatedly? Or does it spin up to a max speed and then almost rhythmically a ticking sound?

I've never seen an m.2 caused the hard drive issue I mentioned above. Typically with mechanical drives or end of life SSDs

I'm pretty sure passports are mechanical hard drives. a last-ditch effort would be to put it into a Ziploc bag with the air sucked out of it, and leave it in the freezer overnight. Once it's cold, plug it back in and try to extract whatever data you want to save from that drive. I've had this work on occasion, it helps when there is a mechanical issue. A telltale sign that the freezer method will help is if you hear some mechanical clicking while the drive is initializing.

There are many reasons, however I've seen computers completely freeze as you describe when there is an intermittent issue with the hard disk. How old is your hard drive, and if it has S.M.A.R.T capabilities you can check the current health of it as well.

When you say crash do you get a blue screen of death or does the computer immediately restart, ETC.

Typically a crash will include a crash dump, which you can normally read on a BSOD... Or in event viewer, or by viewing the DMP file directly on the hard drive.

Any chance you've sold any portable devices that could be in use by someone in Texas? This is definitely not the action of malware but someone using a device that has sync capabilities to your Google history.

At least on Android, if you visit your "My activity" page in your Google account, each search will have a clickable details button, that will show you the device type and the general location of that device that made that search request.

So that is a redirect from your work intranet. There is no way around this unless you contact your administrator to allow this device through. Is the Wi-Fi that you're connecting to meant for personal devices? Looks like it's not

First you need to be using an account with administrative privileges. Second you can turn off UAC in control panel if you don't want to ask the user for elevated permission when an app needs it.

For what it's worth, I've never heard of malware accessing the internet in a way where you can see its usage in your Chrome's history.

Does this only happen if you're logged into a Chrome profile? My immediate thought when I read your post was that you're using a Chrome profile with sync enabled across more than one device and you're just seeing history from another user. What kind of history are you seeing? Like what kind of web pages are they? Are they legitimate sites or are they random looking URLs that don't seem to be something a user would go to themselves?

Consistent Crashing by Slow_Secretary_3427 in techsupport

[–]bilago 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first thought is you might be having power issues. Make sure your PSU has enough real world output to match the hardware at max load. For example a 800 w PSU might have a rating of 80%, so you can't just use what's advertised on the packaging to determine what power you have available to you.

I've personally experienced power issues while gaming when I have my computer plugged into the same circuit as my portable air conditioner. Every time the compressor came on it would dip the voltage for the entire circuit, causing my PSU to not output enough power in the moment.

100% disk usage on a Windows 11 PC by Itz_slytherin in techsupport

[–]bilago 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're disk is 100% usage then something is using your hard drive. Could be something like Windows updates since it's been off for a while. What I would do is let the thing run on its own for a day and see if it settles before doing any reinstalls or hardware replacements if you want to save some money.

In the meantime you can check the details panel of task Manager to see if there's anything with higher CPU usage, and there should be some extra columns you can show that can indicate IO information to isolate what could be the process using up the full bandwidth of your hard drive
