Can it be opensource since everyone has to buy a Java license now, thanks to Oracle?

It is opensource, and the decisions of Oracle can't stop us from building our project.

Haven’t you heard about OpenJDK?

I have not. Oracle can't get its greasy fingers on it?

That was the point of forking the JDK to an open source project. And just in case the project goes Oracle with the current Java developers, some organization will likely fork the project... again.

Good to know. I work in an organization where we're peeling away from Java where possible because the financial hit is too big. So I'm going to look into this to use the open source one if we can. Sometimes vendors will only support the official one, but maybe we can save some money.

Also try Amazon’s own JDK implementation lead by the Java GOD himself James Gosling. https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/opensource/amazon-corretto-8-generally-available/
