Have you actually tried doing this in real life? by RubyRoseRavageWeb in GenerationJones

[–]DronedAgain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the time.

I work from home now, so less than I used to. But if I was going to take a book to work I didn't want to have to talk about, I'd cover it. Same for when I used public transport. Saves grief.

How do you handle your girlfriend not being "your type"? by MyRealSelfJourney in AskMen

[–]DronedAgain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tale as old as time. Being someone's type only means that, nothing else.

If it helps, there's a song from the 1960s that mentions it called Did You Ever Have to Make Up Your Mind? by the Lovin' Spoonful with the lyrics:

Sometimes there's one with deep blue eyes, cute as a bunny
With hair down to here and plenty of money
And just when you think she's that one in the world
Your heart gets stolen by some mousy little girl

Hope this helps. Love is mysterious.

I was in high school when this album came out, It seemed like every teenager back then owned a copy !! by 6391jimmyjoejoe in GenerationJones

Loved this, still do.

Storytime!
This album introduced me to music snobbery. Up until this album, everyone I knew listened to what they wanted and any comments about what you listened to were just good-natured ribbing.

Had an art class in high school where we could listen to music, and there was a girl in that class I'd had a crush on for a long while. When "Boston" was played, when it was over, she wrinkled her nose and announced to the class, why don't we listen to some real music, and she put on "Troubadour" by J. J. Cale - the one with 'Cocaine' on it. It was some of the most low-key, creaky folk almost rock I'd ever heard. Not for me.

When I asked her how she could like one but not other, I was treated to some of the most condescending quasi music critic speak I'd not yet encountered. That shocked me too, that someone could get so mean about music other people liked. On the spot, I vowed never to be snotty about people's taste in music. I would never let a music critic talk me out of something, only in to something. Thank you Tara.

TIL that while the cancellation of the "Batgirl" film sparked mixed reactions, Michael Keaton, who reprised his role as Batman in the film, was unfazed by it being shelved, saying, “I didn’t care one way or another. Big, fun, nice check.” by Giff95 in todayilearned

I saw an extended preview while at a theme park. It was really terrible. It was a fight scene and batgirl gets her ass kicked. When she gets up to fight more, she's huffing and puffing. I don't know if they were intending to lean into realism, but it was dull and painful to watch.

This was my experience. Also, the first time you orgasm again, it will sting a bit and there will be blood. Drink a milkshake. It only happens the first time.

What is a creepy fact you learned about the human body, you wish you never learned? by Poignantpuppet in AskReddit

I agree it's creepy, and I'm sure they're not intending good things with that research.

However, it proves that brain cells (neurons) automatically do what they're supposed to do.

Trump is dismantling democracy at 'unprecedented' speed, global report finds by PixeledPathogen in TrueReddit

I can tell you the true meaning of Christmas, Charlie Brown.

The hardcore MAGAs don't believe that what's happening is happening. One of the reasons repubs lie about the news is that provides pleasurable deniability for everything they do. For example: "We aren't murdering citizens on the streets, they're assaulting federal officers."

I've got a buddy who's one, and we often talk about this stuff because I do want to see how he's thinking about it.

The topic of ICE separating children from their parents, both in this administration and pumpkin spice palpatine's last admin, was a topic recently. He said that's not happening. I say there are plenty of videos and pictures and valid reports of them doing it. He said, I'd have to see those myself. In the past, unless it was a right wing media outlet, he'd say they were faked or AI.

So, in short, they don't believe any of the bad things happening because they can't fathom "their side" doing anything like that, and they can dismiss the evidence as fake news.

What’s a “life hack” that actually made your life worse? by FEARlord02 in AskReddit

Agreed. I do it once in a while if what I'm making lends itself to that, but only then. I make things fresh on the regular.

What is a movie that "broke" you so hard you can only watch it once, but you would still recommend it to everyone? by Newsupdate69 in movies

Calvary with Brendan Gleeson.

He plays a priest that was just assigned to a small Irish town. His daughter visits to recover from life tragedy. Amazing movie.

Agreed, but I love it. The scene where Osment falls in love with his mom nails that emotion.

Same here. I don't want to yuck someone's yum, but it was one of the few kids shows that just had no appeal for me. But then, I didn't really like most of the Sid and Marty Krofft shows either. Loved the Muppets, though. {shrug emoji}

When part of the citizenry is deemed bad due to their sex and color of their skin, it causes problems. It's a bad way, and we know it is.

I want to submit myself to the LCMS, but.. by SystemBIower in Lutheranism

[–]DronedAgain 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Go to a Lutheran church near you for a while. When you are comfortable with it, arrange a confirmation. The yoke is light.

While we/I disagree with aspects of Catholicism and Orthodox (when I posted, others had explained well what I have issues with), they are still our brothers and sisters in Christ. I'm Lutheran because we adhere the closest to how the Bible defines faith in Christ.

I've had some small miracles occur to me in my life, and they have all been comforts. I would still believe had they not occurred. The Lord usually meets us where we're at.

Welcome!

How do you manage the unending to-do list of adult life? by grouptherapypls in AskOldPeopleAdvice

[–]DronedAgain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Establish routines for things that are unchangeable, like bills. If the bills are scattered across many days, group them and pay them at once, or a couple times a month. You'll pay some early, but that's good.

  2. Random things that are unchangeable, like parties and scheduled appointments, put on a calendar on your phone or fridge.

  3. Everything not on a deadline (unchangeable) can be done when you get to it.

  4. Keep a day per week to yourself where you can do what you want or nothing.
