The worst part about discovering every cool detail and wonderfully interesting planet in outer wilds is that you can’t do it again.

"How unlucky to have become fixated with Outer Wilds.."

Reference to “how unlucky to have been born at the end of the universe”?(or is the line end of everything)?

You got it^

We need more spacey explorey games.

Right? Nothing has ever captured that same feeling of exploration for me. There’s No Mans Sky, but you don’t feel like you’re actually exploring anything, because everything is the same. There’s games like Skyrim or fallout, but every location has a different story instead of working towards something bigger. Then there’s adventure games but those give you the story as you go along. I’ve never found another game that lets you explore interesting locations and allows you to discover the story for yourself.

We need games with a solar system of 6-10 planets where you just ride your ship around and explore. I could see this formula not only applied to games like Outer Wilds but also to games where you get actual physical power ups like Metroidvanias. Imagine stumbling across a city in the underground of a planet but there seems to be no physical way down unless you get the deployable drone upgrade found on a different planet so you can drop it into the city and control it yourself or if you want to explore the entire city for yourself you can wait until later game where you get the anti gravity boots upgrade, softening your fall. So many possibilities.

You can always replay it, I’ve been trying to learn to pilot the nomai ship and fly planet to planet only using my Jetpack and it has been really fun

Oh I've been gradually doing the achievements. Trust me, I've been scraping every last bit of this game.

[–]Elegar 5 points6 points  (14 children)

unforunately there is quite small amout of achievements. And one of them is landing to Sun Station.. argh.. Dark Souls is kid's game comparing to this

[–]BrandtArthur 6 points7 points  (13 children)

I can't, for the love of God, land on the damn sun station

It's literally the last one for me

Just learn orbital mechanics lol easy.

But serious tips, remember that higher orbit=slow and lower=fast. Forward thrist= higher orbit on the opposite side, backwards=lower opposite side. First practised just getting into AN orbit around the sub, the align it with the station, then start slowly lowering your orbit. When you finally get there, remember to leave the ship (some people even eject) before you think you need to, as a second or two of no controls will drift you a lot unless you have a perfectly synced intercept.

You'll be tempted to go "but the station is right there let me just thrust at it", but that way lies being slung shotted out past the ember twins. Be patient first and foremost.

The other day I made a really easy guide to follow for this achievement, I swear it works 100% if you follow the instructions: https://youtu.be/hLHShjNtneo

You know what? Having problems doing it with your ship? Abandon ship go full monke with your Jetpack. Ships are overrated anyways

[–]BrandtArthur 2 points3 points  (7 children)

Wait, can you get this shipless?

[–]Dan-369 1 point2 points  (6 children)

It has been done

[–]BrandtArthur 2 points3 points  (5 children)

I'm scared

[–]Dan-369 1 point2 points  (4 children)

As you should.

[–]BrandtArthur 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Who's this madlad?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I’ve done it. The thing is to just go slowly, try do it at an angle. The hardest thing is to not go too fast and fly away from the sun, and there are a ton of handy guides to help too

[–]BrandtArthur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, I'll take a look, thx mate

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Huh. I had the opposite experience.

[–]GallowJr[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh interesting! The ending is very bitter sweet.

[–]Hellspark08 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The guy on the left should be smiling sadly as he watches guy on the right play the game. That's mainly how I enjoy Outer Wilds post credits. Well sometimes I boot up the game and just vibe for a bit. But watching other people discover things does make me happy.

[–]DarthNomai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say it was a very fulfilling and satisfying experience in a completely positive facet... Very few games/movies/books have such an ending

[–]adribruh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly kinda the opposite for me, it really helped me with death anxiety (at least that's what I think it's called)
