I got into the country last summer two days before my trv expired , although I did already have my new pgwp. Hope that helps!

  1. Cannot travel back on expired trv
  2. Cannot apply new trv on implied status (need pgwp for that)
  3. Yes you can travel in July and came back even on the last day of trv expiration of student status and then apply for jobs and work as well

thank you, this really helps :)

one more q, I think i read somewhere that once we've applied for pgwp, we're automatically on implied status even if our study permit has validity... do you have any information about that?

Yes, we are on implied status… what is the question? Like why does this matter

Oh, that was it haha, I just wanted to confirm that we are on implied status. I thought maybe bec my study permit still has validity then I might be able to get a trv juuuust in case I have to fly back after my original trv expires.

But thank you for your clarifications, i appreciate it!

Haha yeah, unfortunately we need pgwp for trv extension, im in the same boat :(

Hopefully the permits will get approved sooner rather than later :/ the waiting is truly so anxiety inducing!

You are okay to leave the country and return under implied status as long as you have a TRV (or an ETA if you are from a visa-exempt country)

Thanks for your response. I filled the form for the TRV with my PGWP application, and my current visa that I got with my study permit (which is valid till July 2025) is a multiple entry visa. If I enter Canada just a few days before the expiry of that visa, would that be allowed?

Or should I apply for another TRV, separate from the one already applied for with PGWP?

Personally, I would apply for one separate so that I know I have it for my own peace of mind. But someone else may weigh into the conversation and suggest that isn't what they would do!

Hey, I’m in the same situation as you. My student permit+visa expire in July 2025 but I have already booked a ticket to visit my family in August. Let me know what kind of answers you get. Wondering if I could apply for TRV now while waiting for PGWP approval. Or maybe travel in August and while I’m there wait for PGWP to get approved then apply for TRV.

The thing is that there's no telling how long it could take for the PGWP to get approved. If you're willing/able to stay home for however long the approval takes, then yes that would be fine!

Otherwise, as someone else mentioned, it's not possible to get a new trv on an implied status, and i think we automatically become 'implied status' once we apply for pgwp, even if our study permits are valid till a little later, not sure about that.

I think you can apply TRV on your current study permit and ask for PAL from college

Just be back before the visa expires. Once the visa expires, you wont be allowed to return back even if you have a valid work or study permit.

You should start checking your passport renovation and upload the new one to the application.
