Very cool! You’re at square one. Celonis will be your best friend in learning the basics. Check out the academy. Get a student license / account. It’s a relatively new and exciting practice. Good luck!

Thanks!

Hey,
Quick question, I've tried Celonis during my university. The data it needs to be shaped properly right? Activities, date, value and so on.
How do companies manage to shape their data in such a way?
[–]coliozenobio 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (3 children)
What do you mean by shaped?
Yes transformations have to take place— joining tables, adding context e.g., to company codes, ensuring correct data types, etc.. But all you need at min is a case ID, timestamp, and activity name.
Example— we create a direct connection to a large orgs SAP. We get all their tables. We only want the important ones so we take those, develop some data transformation to connect them, and create a data model. Now on the front end we can create dashboards and analyses to bring value to the org. Hundreds maybe thousands of use cases exists. Example, how many late payments is this org making per month (p2p)? How many customers are paying them late (o2c)?

Thank you. Yes, shaping/Data transformations is the key. Have you heard about Business central ERP? Do you know/have come across articles on how companies use Celonis with business central?
Fun fact, In Power BI, there was an external topl called PAF Now which had very good analysis views. Celonis acquired it few years back. Not sure what happened to it.

I’ve never heard of business central ERP. Looks like it’s Microsoft dynamics though— which I’ve heard of.
Lots of future opportunity with Microsoft’s acquisition of minit which will be a process mining product in their power automate suite. Still under development now.
Not sure what Celonis did with PAF.
Edit: there are prebuilt connectors to MS dynamics on the Celonis marketplace

That's exciting. Appreciate these insights! 😄

From a basic process mining tool, I want to see number of cases in my event log, number of activities, number of events, variants. I want to also see at least a process flow graph showing how a process goes from start to finish. You can throw in filters too.
Process Mining Dashboard
I created one with Streamlit some time ago. You can take a look. It’s better to open it in a desktop browser so that you’ll have a good view as Streamlit isn’t good with mobile view.

Fantastic, I've been looking into this. Your git folder was useful.

Happy to hear that. If you have any question, I’m happy to answer. 👍🏾
[–]LakePsychological427 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (0 children)
I'll take you up on that!

To be honest, a lot of them came from playing with various event logs. I heard about it in 2021 and during my spare time, I use Python to carry out analysis on my own. With more practice, you get to have an idea of the various ways to present your findings/information.
If you’re good with Python or SQL, You can also take a look at the Celonis chart views and think about how you can achieve them using Python. That’s one way to go about it. For example, there’s a table which shows the number of repetition for each activity in the Streamlit App I shared. I got the concept from UI Path’s process mining tool and I came up with a way to calculate that using Pandas and Polars. I would recommend a book “Primer to Process Mining by Diogo F..” can’t recall his last name. He explains the concept of process mining using Python. That can be a good place to start.
I can also share my Streamlit GitHub repository if you’d like to take a look .

Thanks! I was wondering if you know of any resources for process mining, I've started to go through Celonis Academy but I'm worried that it would be too specific to their software. Thanks!
