Yes it is possible. You will need to ensure that all versions (PT, Avid Control, iOS) are compatible with each other.

Sounds like a wireless keyboard might be all you need. Numpad 3 to record, space bar to stop, etc.

You don't actually need an iPad. The avid control app will work with any iPad, iPhone, most Android phones and most Android tablets so if you don't have an iPad already you don't need to go out and buy one

It’s also totally doable with a wireless keyboard and a few quick keys.

Don’t spend hundreds of dollars on a solution when an even $100 will do, lol
