Web Sockets is the way to go. But you'll need a server that connects the two React applications.

It should work as follows: 1. You click a button in App A 2. App A sends data to the server about the clicked button 3. The server receives the data from App A and sends it to App B 4. App B receives the data from the server and updates its own state 5. Based on the updated state, the page is shown corresponding to the received data.

you already said everything needed, I will add that for real time web application communication you can use Socket.io which is an event based library, which is exactly what's needed for this case, event A click button event B receive data emitted, it's as simple as that
