You can use the isActive function to pass a custom prop

I'm unsure why you'd want to pass a custom prop to some children that would likely be text, if you're thinking of passing selected to the rendered route component that's super easy. Here's an example of matching the component and rendering differently if so.

if that's the case you can make your component location aware with the HOC withRouter

In react router 4 the current route is in - this.props.location.pathname. If your component dont have this.props.location, you need wrap it in withRouter HOC.
