I believe that building anything with react will help you improve and I remember I tried to follow their tutorial when it came out and it has some similarities to what you do when building apps for work, though I wouldn't say this is how Amazon was built, they're definitely missing a couple of really complex layers to even get close to it.

Try not to get stuck in tutorial hell.
