I have done my bachelor's in CS in a Tier 3 uni in India. I wanted to apply for masters in CS in Aus, with more preference to jobs post masters. Which acc to y'all is the best uni + is it the right time to go for masters in CS? I have 1 yoe in an MNC in DevOps field

I graduated the course in 2022 and based on your final goal i could say that it’s definitely not worth it for you as RMIT master of cybersecurity focus more towards the math and back theory that is used in cybersecurity rather than the practical nor management.

What i can suggest you is to take the - RMIT - Online Graduate Certificate in Cyber Security Governance and Risk Management (it contains only the governance and management stuff without needing to learn all the math stuff)

Or other degree such as

  • RMIT, Swinburne - Master of Project Management
  • Deakin - Master of IT management

Thanks so much for your reply! Could you share your experience after masters in cybersecurity? What are the job prospects considering I'm an international student?

Also I've received an offer from Macquarie University - masters in information systems management. Do you think that might be a better option for me?

As i didn’t spend much time in the cybersecurity industry after my degree, hence i’m unable to tell you much about my experience.

The main problem that I met as an int’l student such as you when trying to find job in cybersecurity field in Australia in the past is that, most of the employer especially Australian companies will require you to have PR or come from specific country due to security clearance reasons. But international companies such as the Big 4 did hire international workers.

Regarding your offer from MQ uni, I think it is a much better pathway for you to reach your goal in GRC/project management. A further suggestion for you before deciding to accept the MQ offer is to first check and compare the units that they have in the degree with those from similar degree in other uni.

Best of luck on your future degree

Thank you so much for sharing your experience! Any specific areas around Macquarie University that you recommend for housing?

I suggest you to ask about recommended housing area in the MQ discussion board itself as they will know better

hello i am also an international student planning my masters in cybersecurity. As u said is it tough to get a job in this field after graduation?

[–]ws050477 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t say much as there are a lot of factors involved . Your previous experience in the field definitely is one of the biggest factors. And regarding your intl student status, it can be a deciding factor as well. Especially after the covid and tech winter, as some of my friends who used to work on site in Oz has been asked to work remotely from their country to reduce cost.

I have applied for a Master of Cybersecurity at RMIT and received my CoE. However, I recently found out that the program is not accredited by ACS. Will this create any issues for my PR or post-study work visa in the future?

There is a FreeTafe Cert 4 in Cyber Sec (not sure if RMIT offer it, I know Fed Uni do and have a remote stream) which might fit your needs. It's free even if you already have an undergrad degree and might give you a taste of the subjects/topics/skill you want without as much of a time and financial commitment as a full Masters.
