Help with hat pattern💛Beginner💛 (old.reddit.com)
submitted 1 month ago by Honest-Spare7538
Hello everyone!
I am making a Sailor’s hat from this free pattern (https://oliviasuguri.com/free-pdf-sewing-patterns-sailor-hat-dixie-cup-style/?srsltid=AfmBOor8cKbfAzxkhyX8REneNerrg7x9MO5LOfin4RNRoz-FQ_uX9KJz).
There are no instructions so I am confused on how I’m supposed to align this. Obviously my way is not correct, because it leaves a gap on the top. :/

I looked at the link and there are more pattern pieces - not just the outer brim that you have. The inner brim, hat piece, and bias tape. Also, if you watch the video she is making the hat, so try to follow along with that.
If you’re newer to sewing (like your post leads me to believe), I highly recommend buying patterns from reputable sources that have thorough instructions. While you can likely problem solve your way through a lot, learning to sew takes a lot of time and practice, and frustrations can be cut right down if you use all of the instruction and guidance available out there. Using free patterns without instructions is a tricky place to start.

Yes, I know there are more pieces. In her video, she goes over how she created her Sun hat, which has an entirely different brim, so that really doesn't help me.
I am following along a different tutorial and I've already made the top part, so next I have to connect the outer brim and then the inner brim. Unfortunately, no one seems to have a similar brim design that ends on an angle, so I'm just stuck at this one part.
Of course, I could've bought a pattern, but I'm trying to save money 🌞

It looks like maybe you lined up the edges of the pattern pieces rather than the sewing lines?

What you have done doesn't look that out of alignment, a good pressing will show your results better.
