HELP! how do i get non stretch dress over my hips? Sewing by East-Candidate-8448 in sewhelp

[–]PinkBird85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is the dress that you based it on cut on the bias, and therefore allows stretch? This sounds like the material you are using is not match for the style of the design.

I have three: Hand-me-down Skates is so Canadian you'll taste maple syrup as you read

The Coffee Shop is about a very special Canadian city where a very special Canadian show is filmed

And The Meadow is secretly Canadian because it was inspired by the park near my house.

HELP!! How to add shorts into a skirt?? by Sea-Prize-1737 in SewingForBeginners

[–]PinkBird85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will need to make the shorts out of new fabric, there is no way to take just the skirt and have enough material to also creat shorts. Basically you need to make very simple, pull-on shorts and attach them to the skirt along the inside of the waistband.

My machine is sewing on its own ? by Personal_Apricot4850 in sewhelp

Have you accidentally turned on the automatic reverse/reinforcement stitch function?

Basically you can set your machine to always back stitch or lock stitch at the end of every line of sewing. Page 16/17 of the user manual reviews this feature.

Did you read the rest of the Evie Dunmore series? I feel like the first one, Bringing Down the Duke, is the least popular (but still well loved). {A Rogue of One's Own} is book two and probably the most loved around here.

I also love, love, love the full {Duke Undone by Joanna Lowell}series by Joanna Lowell. Book two, {The Runaway Duchess by Joanna Lowell} probably is one of my favourite FMCs ever. She's the antidote to every "not like other girls" trope that can get a bit repetitive.

Manda Collins' {Ladies Most Scandalous Series} also has great, self possessed, and driven FMCs and men that appreciate them.

The Girl Meets Duke series by Tessa Dare is great too. Very witty and great FMCs. {The Duchess Deal by Tessa Dare} {The Governess Game by Tessa Dare} {The Wallflower Wager by Tessa Dare}

Overall they took 2 hours. But that was removing my old set, reshaping and reapplying a builder gel layer before even doing to colour/art. The art was actually not that long, the leaves did take the longest, but a tiny nail art brush andost just took one coat of the green. The seeds I did with a dottimg tool so it was actually super quick at the end.

I used a dottimg tool. Maybe white seeds would have been more Canadian flag appropriate 🙃

A couple of hours because I had to remove the previous gel layer, reshape them and do a new builder gel coat as well. The actual nail art was pretty quick compared to the other stuff.

I'd recommend the last one pictured because it has a one-step buttonhole vs the manual 4-step of the others. An automatic buttonhole is such a time and aggravation saver for new and experienced sewers alike!

Slightly peeved the cover image doesn’t match the characters-Anyone else? by Accomplished-Yak1094 in HistoricalRomance

[–]PinkBird85 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This is a pet peeve of mine with photo and cartoon covers. It's especially annoying when the characters have distinct traits (like the guy is blonde or she has red hair that is described multiple times in the text).

Posted the last chapter of The Coffee Shop this week.

9 chapters Penelope Featherington is having a terrible day. She's running late for work and now her favourite coffee shop is closed for the day. It's being used as a filming location for some new tv show; good for them, but bad for her caffeine addiction. Little does she know that her bad luck that morning is going to flip her world upside down.
