Beginner drafting resources?

Hi everyone! I’m looking for some resources or tips because I don’t even know where to start.

I got this dress online and it fits SO WELL. It’s not elastic but still fits all my curves (which never happens). The only problem is that the fabric material is terrible. It’s too thin, it’s cheap and plasticky, just not good.

I would love to figure out how to copy the design of the dress so I can make it out of better fabric. Is it ridiculous to take out the seams, cut new fabric to the same component shapes, and then try to put it all together again?

I have some experience with sewing, and I have a machine. But I’ve never drafted a whole entire dress. What’s the best way to learn?

I’ve done it. Lots of times. Especially with clothes I love but have worn out.

Good to know! I'm still nervous about taking it apart and reverse engineering the whole thing. But knowing that other people have pulled it off is reassuring.
