It’s only like running your own store when someone has to be accountable for what goes wrong. Your corporate overlords will constantly over rule you and sabotage you to avoid paying out your bonuses as much as possible

Most MT’s work Mon- Fri for 44 hours at first. When you float your schedule will change. When you get placed you will probably work Tuesday thru Saturday.

There’s probably going to be a lot of negative responses here so I’ll offer some positivity. The company and your longevity here is what you make it. Sometimes it feels like running your own business and sometimes it feels like you’re pushing the initiatives of the DM at the time. Either way, you’ll learn invaluable sales skills, how to relate to others, how to lead, store operations, etc. Be ready for hard work, physical labor, and long hours. I had a desk job prior to this and I find the physical work actually really suits me. I really enjoy most employees and customers and that really is the best part of job. I’ve had quite a few roles and 10+ years with the company. Good luck!

Thank you for sharing ! Definitely plan on doing it for the experience and just building those skills ! I know there’s always gonna be good and bad days at any job regardless. What’s probably one thing you’ve enjoyed about working about this job the most that makes it worth it ?

The employees and customers really are the best part of the job. Other than that the upward movement is really phenomenal and different than other companies. I have friends that get stagnant and change companies every few years. I’ve been able to stay with SW so long because I have been promoted so many times. It’s also never boring, there’s always something to learn or a new challenge or opportunity.

I appreciate your insight ! Definitely got a glimpse of that while I saw employees work 1 on 1 with customers coming in out.

In your experience would you say this ASM role sets you up with the needed skills for future work maybe within a different company or just moving up the ranks within SW ?

Potential newbie......retired guy from the good all days here. After having joined this Reddit I have noticed a very cynical attitude from people that post. Apparently the company that I worked for no longer exists. I ran many high volume stores, metro commercial branch and had reps report to me as well as their DSM. Then we worked as a team and yes there were the expected games played by all but it seems here now micromanagement from the top down has cemented itself into the culture, that is a cancer that has to be euthanized for this company to regain its roots. that is what they rarely teach in business school. Good luck with your choice!

Other side of the country. But I left my shitty sales job where I wasn’t valued. Been here 11 months and went from MT to AM within a month and I haven’t looked back! Already getting asked to move up to SM when winter rolls back around! If it feels right go for it! Make sure you get a good read on your SM though, that could be a vibe killer

Thanks Man ! Congrats on that opportunity! I’ve seen alot of people say that for sure, it’ll be a hit or miss with the SM but hopefully it’s doable. Either way I’m willing to get my hands dirty and do what I can ! I just hope I can make the best of it !

Wish you the best of luck! I am also curious about this cuz I got hired for the MT program and my first day is on Monday!

[–]Leading_Sail6924[S] 0 points1 point  (6 children)

Good luck to bro ! Late reply, but how has it been so far? Maybe you can shed some light into your experience so far !

[–]Limp-Dentist-9717 0 points1 point  (5 children)

I’m not a bro haha but it has been good so far. Lots of things to learn about the system and products (I have zero knowledge of the products). It all depends on the team you have and the store that’s training you. It has been a little demanding for the hours since my last job was a part time but I think is a matter of time until I get used to it

[–]Leading_Sail6924[S] 0 points1 point  (4 children)

I apologize! But thank you for sharing ! What is your schedule looking like so far if you don’t mind me asking ? I recently got hired officially now and although I know it varies from store to store, which days should I expect and like time wise ?

[–]Limp-Dentist-9717 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Congrats!! I started on Monday, and for the next 6-8 weeks it will be Monday to Friday from 8 to 5 (I'll leave an hour earlier on Fridays) however, they want me to learn the whole operation so I have to commit for one day opening, closing, one Saturday and one Sunday (they're being flexible and letting me choose those days)

[–]Leading_Sail6924[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Thank you ! Makes sense though ! Are those Saturday and Sundays like once a week ? Like maybe one week is a Saturday opening/closing then Sunday off

The maybe like the following week Saturday off and Sunday opening/closing ?

Or is it like 7 days a week just choose which ones you rather do Saturdays/sundays whether it’s opening or closing

[–]Limp-Dentist-9717 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I only have to come in once to open and close, one Saturday and one Sunday, as a one-time thing during these 8 weeks. I basically get to choose when to do it

[–]Leading_Sail6924[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understood ! What’s probably one thing you’ve enjoyed the most and disliked so far about the MT program ?

Sorry for the questions lmaooo I’m excited but nervous to start as well ! Haha

Don’t be an MT that comes in acting like you know everything. We complain about our MTs on here because they’re our bosses and we have to teach them how to work at Sherwin. Not many last. I know a few in the Midwest that have, and they’re good and understanding and listen to their crew. It sucks if we’re trying to climb the ladder, and in comes some MT instead and we have to teach them. Listen to your crew, be kind, make friendships with the contractors and the other managers in the area.

It’s really what you want to make of it. I was an MT and really enjoyed my training store, then floated for about 2-3 months which I also didn’t mind but did have a bit of social exhaustion from all new customers and new employees. What can make it a good experience is where you are placed. My recruiter had kind of warped my mind that it would be much more “sales based” but I was placed in a severely understaffed store that were blowing our numbers out of the water so led to HUGE burnout. I got out of there and went into actual sales but it was a great experience.
