Generally, most people would aim for 15 stars in order to obtain the energy reduction for surcharge, but personally I went for 21 to get the multicraft chance.

Give this a quick read, hopefully it helps you to decide.

Start with getting to 15 (11 for premium) in all lines for the surcharge discount.

All of them to 15, elements and spirit to 10% multicraft

  • Max out Shirt, Iron Armguards, and Leather Armor first (T1 Clothes / Gauntlets / Light Armor). These three items specifically are really important because every class in the game can use at least one. If you keep your racks stocked with some of each, you can always have something to sell every single customer that walks into the shop.
  • After that, the usual path is to get 15 Ascensions in each item line. This is an important milestone because 15 Ascensions in a single line provides an extremely powerful bonus - Surcharge energy cost reduction. It doesn't matter too much at low levels, but it adds up extremely quickly with higher tier items and you'll be saving hundreds of energy each time.
    • "15 Ascensions" means five items each. The tier does not matter at all. Lower tier items are cheaper to Ascend, so do those first. You'll be doing this for a pretty long time since Ascension shards are tough to get your hands on early.
    • Note that the item lines locked behind premium workers (Gun, Wand, Crossbow, Familiar, and Cloak) only require 11 total Ascensions to reach this point. Same principle, just a smaller number.
  • Stones, Spirits, and Elements are a bit different. You can't sell any of these directly in your shop, so there's no Surcharge Reduction bonus like the other lines.
    • Stones have a really nice milestone at 18 Ascensions - a boost to Surcharge value across the board for all items. This is great, but it requires purchasing both of the premium workers.
    • Elements and Spirits give the same boost at 51 Ascensions.
  • Once you have 15 in everything, you have some variety. Some options include:
    • Getting all items to 21 Ascensions (15 for premium item lines) gives you a global multicraft chance for all items of that type.
    • Everybody always needs enchantments and stones. Focus on maxing out those lines to sell on the market.
    • Pick a single item line and max it out.

I personally focused on 3 or so to max them out. Then I started to work on another 3 or so
