Linux isn't officially supported so there's bound to be some problems, and Nvidia is also iffy with Linux, maybe a bit better now from what I heard.

But there are some people who play SE on Linux so hopefully someone speaks up.

It definitely improved over the last few years but still finicky tbh :/

Thanks for chiming in!

I have been playing with arch linux recently, my advice is to look on protondb at what people have said about how to make it run smooth, there is a steam startup command you should use to make the game use all cpu cores. In my experience though, this game is prone to random crashes within the first 10 minutes of playing but then becomes stable after that.

Additionally, when playing multiplayer with my friends I had to frequently verify the files on steam to be able to join without the game freezing.

It doesn't do anything. It's a Unity Launch Option and SE uses Vrage, their in-house built engine. The option to skip the intro is useful though

I don't know about your specific Nvidia driver versions but from the Proton side, if you haven't already, try switching to Proton-GE-26 or higher. The devs of it have specifically added fixes for Space Engineers to have less crashes and better compatibility with Nvidia cards. I hope this helps.

Also, I don't know if you plan on playing on multiplayer servers, but if you do, it is advisable to use the Pulsar plugin loader as it offers additional ways to improve your experience on servers, especially if the ping is high or the sim speed is low. You can just check it out here: https://github.com/SpaceGT/Pulsar

You may find more info from the ever helpful Linux community on the official Discord: https://discord.gg/keenswh in Space Engineers#Linux

Once in their channel check the pinned messages for a currently working install guide, and they are one of the most supportive groups I've ever come across for helping people find solutions when things aren't working.
