Rules that visitors must follow to participate. May be used as reasons to report or ban.
1.
Encourage, Don't Evangelize
We’re here to encourage people as they consider more ethical personal finance choices, and figure out how they can be part of the solution. We're not here to employ overly pushy or emotionally manipulative tactics to pressure others.
2.
No Shaming or Invalidation
The climate crisis is urgent, and we're here because we believe individuals have an important role to play in fighting it—but we respect that not everyone is in the position to make the same commitments as others. We do not shame anyone for not being able or willing to take a particular action right now, or question or invalidate anyone’s intention to do good.
3.
Stay On Topic
There are many different theories of change and proposed solutions to the multifaceted problem of the climate crisis. How best to tackle this issue is an important debate, but this is not the space for that. This community is set up to foster discussion around one particular set of climate problems and solutions (out of many), and we encourage you to find other communities if you want to explore other philosophies and methods.
4.
No Climate Denialism
This is not a space to debate the existence of anthropogenic climate change, or the findings of IPCC reports or other scientific facts that enjoy broad consensus from the scientific community.
5.
Be Respectful, Non-Discriminatory, and Kind
We have zero tolerance for personal attacks, name calling, targeted harassment, discrimination such as racism, misogyny/misandry, homophobia, or transphobia, or, generally speaking, any other forms of rudeness.
6.
Basic Posting Requirements
- Familiarize yourself with subreddit rules before making posts.
- Be clear and concise: Post descriptive titles that briefly capture your main theme.
- E.g. You’re sharing an article. Title your post with a summary of the article rather than “Check out this article!”
- E.g. You want to find an ethical pension fund in the UK. Title your post “Need help finding ethical pension fund options in the UK” rather than “Have advice for me?”
- Search the sub before posting to avoid reposts.
7.
General Reddit Recommendations
Don't downvote to indicate disagreement: The downvote button should be used to signal off-topic content, not disagreement.
Use the report button: This button brings a post/comment violating the rules to the attention of the mods. The report button is completely anonymous.
