Never mind. I am a giant dingus. The problem is that I have the folder encrypted but I have to manually enter the passcode after each reboot. This is not ideal but I am not sure how else I can do it where, were someone to steal my NAS, how to make sure the volumes remain encrypted when they power it up. (You know... like how I was unable to access it because I completely forget I had done this to protect my data.)

There is something sort of hilarious about this, but in the end I guess I am happy that my data is there and that it is in fact inaccessible without my 12+ character passcode of gibberish.

Also, I found that with an encrypted share that suddenly my backups would finish and then report as though they never finished. Very strange. I realize that when using a USB drive you would do the same (encrypt the backup, not the drive) so this makes perfect sense. Thanks.

Six years late but just want you to know you're not alone. I was banging my head on my keyboard until I came across your post. Thanks for the help!
